Kauai bus, shuttle service available for Baptiste service

Extra parking with free shuttle service and rountrip bus service at a cost will be available Sunday for those planning to attend the special celebration to honor the life of Mayor Bryan J. Baptiste at the Kaua'i War Memorial Convention Hall, it was announced today.

The cost to ride The Kaua'i Bus is $3 roundtrip per adult and $1.50 for seniors and youths ages 7-18. There's no cost for children six years and younger if accompanied by an adult. For more information about The Kaua'i Bus, call 241-6410.

There will be parking at Vidinha Stadium with free shuttle service every five minutes, starting at 8 a.m., to the convention hall.

Visitation is scheduled from 9-11 a.m. and the celebration of his life will follow from 11 a.m. to 12:30 pm. Aloha attire is suggested.

The bus schedule:

  • Depart from Kekaha at intersection of Elepaio and Akialoa roads at 7:30 and 9 a.m, stopping at regular bus stops along the route. Arrival at the convention hall will be at 8:30 and 10 a.m., respectively.

  • Depart Hanalei from the courthouse at 7:30 and 9 a.m., stopping at regular bus stops along the route. Arrival at the convention hall scheduled at 9 and 10:30 a.m., respectively.

    For the return trip to Kekaha and Hanalei, buses will leave the convention hall at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.

  • Depart Koloa Neighborhood Center at 9:15 a.m., stopping at regular stops along the route. Arrival at the convention hall at 9:50 a.m. Return trip leaving the convention hall at 1:30 pm.

  • Kapahi and Wailua can take a 9:25 a.m. shuttle at Mahelona Hospital or any of the regular stops along the way. Arrival at the convention hall will be at 10:20 a.m. Return shuttle will leave the convention hall at 1:30 pm.

    Fares for the shuttle routes is $1 roundtrip per adult and 50 cents for seniors and youths ages 7-18.

    Other services include a Lihu'e Airport shuttle. Arriving passengers can board the shuttle curbside at Hawaiian Airlines' departure area every half hour between 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. For the return trip to the airport, the shuttle will leave the convention hall at 10, 10:30, and 11 a.m. and 12:30, 1:15, 1:45, 2:35, 3:20 and 3:55 p.m.
