HAWAI'I KAI
Volunteers can sign up for Makai Watch training

Malama Maunalua is seeking volunteers for its next free Maunalua Makai Watch training session on July 12. Volunteers are asked to register by Thursday.

Makai Watch volunteers have helped monitor human use of Maunalua Bay, participated in alien algae and beach clean-ups, performed community outreach and are beginning to monitor fish populations. They will also be trained in how to identify and report illegal activities at the bay.

The group is part of a statewide Makai Watch program established by the state Department of Land and Natural Resources and other nonprofits. Volunteers must be age 16 or older and be able to commit to at least four hours a month for one year.

For more information, contact coordinator Lance La Pierre at lapierre@hawaii.edu or 282-461 or go to www.malamamaunalua.org.
