Fetuli M. Vakameilalo, 21, Faiwa Sione, 25, and Logovii Talo, 24, were being held overnight at the main police station cellblock in lieu of $100,000 each for their initial appearance today at District Court.

The three men are accused of beating Rooney Racoma, 20, on the head with bats, according to a police affidavit filed at District Court. Racoma was found unconscious on the roadway fronting 302 California Ave. at 10:32 p.m. Saturday and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition yesterday.

The affidavit said police responded to a report of 20 to 30 men and women fighting with bats. Police arrived and found a large group dispersing but still yelling and arguing with each other. Racoma and two other men who tried to help him were on the ground.

RACERS CHARGED AFTER OFFICER HIT

Two men were charged with racing on a highway and other offenses after a motorcycle police officer pulled one of them over on Moanalua Freeway Friday night and was struck by the other man's car.

The officer was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in stable condition and treated for multiple abrasions, HPD spokeswoman Michelle Yu said.

The officer pulled over a car that had been seen speeding on the freeway's east-bound lanes, Yu said.

A second car rear-ended the officer's motorcycle near the Ala Kupuna overpass about 11:15 p.m.

Police arrested Ronson Kaipono Spencer, 20, and Travis K. Athyasai, 19. Police did not disclose which vehicle struck the officer.

Spencer was charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant, reckless driving, racing on the highway and excessive speeding.

Athyasai was charged with racing on the highway, driving without a license, reckless driving and excessive speeding.
