Weather: Trades are back to keep things cool

A high pressure area building to the north of the islands will keep trade winds flowing over the state through Thursday, according to the National Weather Service forecast for Hawai'i.

Showers may increase a bit in windward areas while not changing very much elsewhere, forecasters said.

Here's how things look heading into the Fourth of July weekend:

Today: Isolated showers before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 85. East wind around 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 10 mph.

Thursday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. East wind around 10 mph.

Thursday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 73. East wind around 11 mph.

Independence Day: Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. East wind around 10 mph.

Friday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 74. East wind around 9 mph.
