Kapolei waste facility cited for operating without permit

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i State Department of Health has cited Unitek Solvent Services Inc. for operating a solid waste management facility without a permit.

The Department of Health issued a warning letter last March to the facility about its permit, which expired in January. Unitek failed to submit a complete solid waste permit application, according to a new release issued by the department.

About 25,000 waste tires were at Unitek's facility in Kapolei in August 2007, and 60,000 in March.

A penalty of $9,900 and orders to take corrective actions have been imposed by the department. Unitek may request a hearing to contest allegations or the order.
