Honolulu police are accepting applications for the Citizens Police Academy.

The academy consists of 12 Wednesday evenings and two Saturdays in a hands-on learning environment, police said in a release. Citizens will learn what it takes to become a police officer, the history of HPD, and how different divisions do their jobs.

Those attending the academy will also have a chance to solve a mock crime, experience emergency vehicle operations, and visit the police firing range.

The next session begins Aug. 13.

To apply, call 529-3351 or apply online at honolulupd.org by clicking the Community Affairs link, then Citizens Police Academy to find an application.
