Cuba beats U.S. junior men's volleyball national team in semifinals

Cuba defeated the United States, 25-19, 25-18, 25-20, in the semifinals of the NORCECA Continental Men's Junior Championship tonight in San Salvador, El Salvador.

Team USA, which has three Hawai'i players on its roster, will play Mexico for the bronze medal tomorrow. Cuba faces Canada for the gold medal.

Murphy Troy of St. Louis, Mo., led the U.S. with 14 points on 10 kills, two blocks and two aces. Honolulu's Tri Bourne, an Academy of the Pacific alum, had three points, while Punahou alum Erik Shoji played the entire match at libero. 'Iolani alum Brad Lawson did not see action.

Cuba convered 47 of 71 kill attempts, while the United States converted 28 of 69.

Cuba also had six aces to three for the U.S. Junior Men.
