Advertiser Staff

A 27-year-old man arrested late Wednesday night for investigation of a hit-and-run accident in Hale'iwa involving critical injuries to a male pedestrian was released today by police pending further investigation.

Police are awaiting lab tests results on the suspect's blood-alcohol level before pursuing charges of first-degree negligent injury, failure to render aid, and operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant.

Police said the male victim, 18, of Wahiawa was playing on the roadway when he was struck by a 2003 Toyota on Kamehameha Highway, 230 feet south of Pohaku Loa Road at 11:37 p.m. The victim was taken in critical condition to The Queen's Medical Center.

The suspect vehicle fled the scene but was arrested about a mile away yesterday at 12:15 a.m.
