"PINK CD" BY VARIOUS ARTISTS; MAUI MEMORIAL MEDICAL CENTER FOUNDATION BENEFIT

You might say everyone is in the pink here — proud to be part of a fundraising effort to raise awareness of breast cancer. Musically, it's a picnic for the ears.

A wide range of tunes is featured, chosen by the artists. Don't expect a Hawaiian hit parade; this is part old, part new, part familiar ... a party for the soul.

Lehua Kalima Heine, sans her Na Leo chums, waxes romantic and sentimental on "Someone to Watch Over Me." She also shows soul sizzle, prompted by Willie K's chatty presence, on "Try a Little Tenderness," one of the charms on this bracelet.

Alaka'i Paleka, with a boost from Willie, takes a stroll on the Maui landscape, name-dropping and honoring landmarks and icons along the way, in the style of Richard Ho'opi'i, Emma Sharpe, Palani Vaughan and more.

You may not recognize Melveen Leed at first as she reinvents herself in "You'll Never Walk Alone," with a quasi blues-jazz motif and in much lower registers we're accustomed to hearing from her. You go, tita sistah.

Sweetness and grace prevail on Nina Keali'iwahamana's strings-and-things fling with "The Very Thought of You." For younger folks, The Girlas, Paula Fuga and Dani Girl preside.

Worth noting: Pomai Williams could have growing appeal with her "Trust Me," which, lyrically and emotionally, grasps the spirit of this gathering to bring the issues of breast cancer to the forefront.
