North Glenwood Bridge to close one day for repairs

Advertiser Staff

Workers from the Highway and Building divisions of the Big Island Department of Public Works will close the North Glenwood Bridge for one day on Tuesday, July 15 to replace wooden planks.

The bridge is located on North Glenwood Road and is accessible from Hawaii Belt Highway in the Glenwood area in East Hawaii.

The planks will be replaced on the bridge from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. No vehicles will be allowed to use the bridge during this time.

The County is asking residents who use the north Glenwood Bridge, which is their only way to and from their homes, to adjust their schedules for July 15.

The County of Hawai'i maintains 127 bridges, which are registered under the National Bridge Inventory, administered by the Federal Highway Administration. Of the 127 bridges, 28 are wooden and serve the communities of Puna, Hilo, Kohala, Kona, Hamakua and Ka'u.

For an update about this repair work, or to find out if the work is cancelled at the last minute because of rain, please call the County Hot line at 334-9559.
