Remnants of hurricane may reach Big Island this week

Today's weather is expected to bring light trades and rain showers mostly in the Windward areas of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

Remnants of Hurricane Boris, a former eastern-Pacific hurricane, could reach the Big Island later this week, increasing the likelihood of a day or two of showers, especially over the windward areas of the Big Island.

Statewide, there is a slight chance of showers over the leeward side of all the islands for today, especially in the afternoon hours. The trade winds will remain light through the middle of the work week, according to the weather service's update at 4 a.m. However, this weather pattern could bring on sea breezes, causing Kilauea volcano emissions to come as far as Puna and Hilo.
