Italy beats U.S. women's volleyball team in World Grand Prix pool play

Italy ended the te United States women's national volleyball team's seven-match win streak today with a 25-22, 25-21, 25-16 victory on the final day of pool play in the FIVB World Grand Prix at Taipei, Chinese Taipei.

The U.S. and Italy advance to the World Grand Prix finals, which start Wednesday at Yokohama, Japan. Both teams have already earned berths in the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Foluke Akinradewo, starting for the first time in the FIVB World Grand Prix, led the U.S. with nine kills. Middle blocker Heather Bown, a University of Hawai'i alum, had four blocks and a kill. Lindsey Berg, a Punahou alum, added 17 assists as the starting setter.
