Holiday fireworks: 8 cited, 1 arrested, 38 fires on Oahu

Honolulu police responded to 396 fireworks-related calls from 6 a.m. Thursday through 6 a.m. yesterday, issuing eight citations and arresting one juvenile for fireworks offenses during that period.

Police also charged 80 drivers for operating a vehicle under the influence of an intoxicant over the Fourth of July weekend.

The Honolulu Fire Department today released the following fireworks statistics:

  • Thursday: 10 fires, one fireworks-related (wildfire).

  • Friday: 57 fires, 26 fireworks-related (12 rubbish, eight wildfires, five Dumpsters, one vehicle).

  • Saturday: 24 fires, nine fireworks-related (four wildfires, three rubbish, two Dumpsters).

  • Yesterday: 12 fires, two fireworks-related (two wildfires).
