Universal healthcare backers organizing here

Honolulu, Hawaii – Health Care for America Now, a coalition of major organizations including labor unions, large community-based membership groups, women's groups, doctors, nurses and small businesses will launch a new campaign demanding quality, affordable healthcare for every American.

The coalition will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. today in the State Capitol atrium to outline the mission of the campaign and how it will affect people here in Hawaii.

Along with the event in Honolulu, the campaign will be hosting launch events in 44 cities (including 36 state capitals) across the country. Between now and election day, the group plans to spend $25 million in its media campaign and have 100 organizers in 45 states, according to a news release from the group.

Coalition members include ACORN, AFSCME, Americans United for Change, Campaign for America's Future, Center for American Progress Action Fund, Center for Community Change, FACE, MoveOn, National Women's Law Center, Planned Parenthood, SEIU, UFCW and USAction.
