Two minor quakes rattle the Big Island

A pair of very minor earthquakes rattled two different parts of the Big Island this morning, according to the US. Geological Survey.

The first of the quakes, at 12:38 a.m., was assigned a preliminary magnitude of 3.0, occurred about four miles northwest of the town of Volcano and was centered about 2.8 miles below the earth's surface.

The second temblor struck at 7:36 a.m. about 3 miles north-northwest of the town of Paauilo at a depth of 6.6 miles. It was assigned a magnitude of 2.6.

There have been no reports or injuries or damage resulting from the two earthquakes.
