MLB: A's reach deal with top pick Jemile Weeks

Associated Press

OAKLAND, Calif. — Jemile Weeks, the brother of Milwaukee's Rickie Weeks, agreed today to a minor league contract with the Oakland Athletics that includes a $1.91 million signing bonus.

Jemile Weeks, like his brother a second baseman, was taken by Oakland with the No. 12 pick in last month's amateur draft.

Weeks hit .363 with 13 homers and 63 RBIs as a junior this year at the University of Miami. He was selected out of high school by Milwaukee on the eighth round of the 2005 draft but didn't sign.

Oakland also agreed with its sixth-round pick, outfielder Tyreace House.
