'Spamalot' at Wynn Las Vegas to close

Associated Press

LAS VEGAS — Ending a 15-month run, "Monty Python's Spamalot" at Wynn Las Vegas is set to close Sunday.

Producers announced the July 13 close date on Tuesday. They had previously announced plans to shutter the show at the Las Vegas Strip resort.

The casino plans to replace the Tony-winning musical with a new production starring impressionist and comedian Danny Gans.

"Spamalot" opened in Las Vegas in late March 2007 as casino mogul Steve Wynn's second attempt to bring musical theater to the Strip.

"Avenue Q" closed after in May 2006 after a nine-month run at the resort.
