NBA: Sentencing for former referee postponed again

Associated Press

NEW YORK — A judge has delayed the sentencing of disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy.

The sentencing had been scheduled for next Monday, but will now be held July 29.

Donaghy is fighting with the NBA over the amount of restitution he should pay to the league over the betting scandal that he brought on. The league wants him to pay $1.4 million, but Donaghy thinks that is way too high.

The judge said Wednesday that she delayed the sentencing because she needs more time to review arguments over restitution.

The 41-year-old Donaghy pleaded guilty last year to felony charges of taking cash payoffs from gamblers and betting on games himself. He faces nearly three years in prison.
