Papakolea cleanup set for this weekend

The City Department of Environmental Services' Adopt-A-Stream/Adopt-A-Block Summer Cleanups continue Saturday and Sunday, July 12 and 13, 2008, from 8:30 a.m. to noon, at Papakolea Community Park and Center.

Volunteer teams from the Papakolea community, service groups and public officials will join forces to clean up upper Papakolea from Iaukea Street on Saturday and lower Papakolea from Kewalo Street on Sunday.

The city will provide a safety orientation, supplies and educational material along with waste and disposal support.

Refreshments will be distributed following the event.

Future events scheduled as of now are:

  • Adopt-A-Block, Ewa Beach, Aug. 16, 8:30-11 a.m., Campbell High School parking lot North Road.

  • Adopt-A-Block, Palisades, Aug. 16, 7:30-9:30 a.m., Leeward Community Church Komo Mai Drive.

  • Adopt-A-Stream, Makiki Stream, Aug. 23, 8:30-11 a.m., Meet at corner of South King and Kalakaua Ave.

  • Adopt-A-Stream, Wailupe Stream, Aug. 30, 8:30-11 a.m., Meet at East Hind Place.
