Exercise equipment damaged in Halawa truck fire

Advertiser Staff

A semi-trailer fire today disrupted traffic flow on Moanalua Freeway for about 35 minutes.

The 10:52 a.m. fire in the west-bound lane of the freeway near the Kahuapa'ani Street overpass in Halawa caused $12,000 damage to exercise equipment and $2,500 damage to the truck, said Capt. Terry Seelig of the Honolulu Fire Department.

Seelig said the truck was transporting a dozen exercise equipment and one of the machines apparently was pushed up against the vehicle's exhaust pipe, causing the cardbox box to catch fire.
