Catcher Dane Sardinha, a former Kamehameha player, has been designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers.

Sardinha, 29, was 3 for 18 with two RBIs after joining the big league club June 25 as a backup for Ivan Rodriguez while Brandon Inge was on the disabled list. Inge was activated Wednesday.

Sardinha was a second-round draft pick out of Pepperdine in 2000.
