KAHULUI
Hina Avenue road work to go on through Sept. 2

Road repairs started this week on a portion of Hina Avenue from Ni'ihau Street to Moloka'i Akau Street.

The $895,494 project includes excavating the pavement, repaving, adjusting manholes and water valves, replacing traffic loop detectors, and installing signs, pavement striping and markers. Maui Paving is the contractor.

The overall project is scheduled to be completed by Sept. 2. County Department of Public Works officials said the bulk of work expected to cause noise and traffic disruptions should be finished before the start of the school year at Kahului Elementary and Maui High schools, which are near the project site.

Some of the remaining work will be scheduled to avoid peak school traffic hours, and may require alternating lanes of traffic, officials said. Also, traffic signals will be modified during construction. Motorists are advised to drive with caution.
