Advertiser Staff

Kumu Hula Michael Pili Pang and Halau Hula Ka No'eau will present "Huliau 2008,"

at 7:30 p.m. July 26 at the Hawai'i Theatre. The theme will be "Generation X … a Fusion of Contemporary Hula Choreography."

This annual concert has become a platform for Pang and his halau to prepare new pieces for performances and touring.

"'Generation X' is intended to test our abilities and stretch our imagination," said Pang. "Our past concerts … have proven where are roots are in hula and now, after 22 years of teaching, I want to show where the inspiration for our presentations and choreograph come from."

Pili Pang is a kumu hula from the lineage of Hula Master Maiki Aiu Lake and Kamamalu Klein and has practiced and studied hula at the height of the Hawaiian renaissance of the 1970s and '80s. His foundation combines Island traditions with a global contemporary outlook.
