Central Union Church gets $125,000 state grant

Advertiser Staff

HONOLULU – Gov. Linda Lingle has released a $125,000 grant-in-aid to Central Union Church in Honolulu for facility improvements at the church's preschool.

The money will be used to purchase and install a fire alarm system, upgrade the electrical transformer and power lines and replace the plumbing.

The state's investment in the preschool upgrades is in line with the State Historic Preservation Division's mission to preserve significant historic and cultural sites, according to a news release from the governor's office.

Central Union Church, which has served the community since 1887, is on the State Register of Historic Places and is one of the most recognized structures on O'ahu. The preschool located on the church grounds has an enrollment of approximately 160 children.
