Realtor resentenced in tax case

Advertiser Staff

A Honolulu man has become the first realtor in the state to have his deferred acceptance of guilty plea revoked for failing to comply with all of the terms and conditions of his deferral and was resentenced last week, the state Department of Taxation announced.

Ronald Staton, who was previously sentenced in a tax case, was placed on probation for one year and must pay a probation fee and a fine of $700, which is the residual amount owed from his prior sentence. He will perform 100 hours of community service in lieu of a 30-day jail term and must remain tax compliant throughout the period of his probation, according to the sentence handed down by judge Edwin Nacino.

Staton could face harsher penalties if he fails to comply.
