Advertiser Staff

A hiker suffering from injuries to his leg and back was transported by the Honolulu Fire Department helicopter from "Ice Pond" in Kalihi Valley to waiting city Emergency Medical Services personnel on Likelike Highway.

The man was taken to an undisclosed hospital in stable condition at 12:32 p.m., said Bryan Cheplic of the Emergency Services Department.

Police closed the highway for a short period of time to allow for the medical evacuation.

Firefighters today also assisted two stranded hikers at Manoa Falls at 12:30 p.m. No injuries were reported, said HFD spokesman Capt. Frank Johnson.
