Ku'uipo Kumukahi, Na Hoku Hanohano award-winning songstress, will perform music from her 2008 album of the year winner, "Na Lani 'Eha," at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 15 at the Atherton Performing Arts Studio at Hawaii Public Radio.

Kumukahi will recreate the CD's mission of showcasing music of the royals and performed by a four-piece combo reminiscent of the groups of the 1930s and '40s by assembling her Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame allies for the gig.

The musicians will include Hall of Fame president Kimo Stone (bass); Dr. Isaac Akuna (steel guitar); Joe Winchester ('ukulele) and Kumukahi on guitar.

The mission of the Hawaiian Music Hall of Fame, which produced the album, is to promote, preserve and perpetuate Hawaiian music by celebrating the achievements of significant composers, singers and performers of Hawaiian music, and in this case, that of ali'i composers King David Kalakaua, his sisters Lydia Kamaka'eha Paki (Lili'uokalani) and Miriam Likelike, and his brother William Pitt Leleiohoku, the youngest.

The Royal Four are credited with the vitality and rich musical environment enjoyed by all Hawaiians during the last half of the 1800s, and inspiring the music that has come to represent Hawai'i throughout the world.
