PEARL CITY
Hawaiian martial art will be topic of library event

Pearl City Public Library is scheduled to host a free lecture-demonstration program about the ancient Hawaiian art of self defense on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.

During the program, "Noelani Mahoe, O lohe Haka Pili Paa, Pa Kui Alua with Guest Performers," Mahoe and her guest performers will present "Warrior Women of Hawai'i: Female Warriors mid-1700s to 1900s," which will include Kalele Ka Anae, Battle of Nu'uanu 1775 and Battle of Kuamo'o Hawai'i 1819.

Mahoe is the recipient of the 2002 Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts' Lifetime Achievement Award and is also an author and educator.

The 45-minute program is recommended for ages 10 to adult.
