Newest firefighters to graduate on Friday

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Fire Department's 93rd Fire Fighter Recruit Class will graduate during a ceremony from 9:45 to 11:30 a.m. on Friday at McCoy Pavilion in Ala Moana Regional Park.

The recruits completed 24 weeks of rigorous training and now possess National Registry of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic and International Fire Service Accreditation Congress Fire Fighter I, Hazardous Materials Awareness, and Hazardous Materials Operations certifications. The certifications mean that a fire fighter has received training that meets national standards.

Besides studying and developing skills in fire fighting, rescue procedures, emergency medical service, and hazardous materials response, the recruits found time to perform a community service activity for the American Red Cross at the fifth annual "Hats Off to the ARC" event in March.

The new firefighters will report to their next assignments July 20. They are Aaron Acosta, Isaiah Aipa, Micah Ancheta, Dean Baldeviso, Koa Morrell Beasley, Frederick Castillo Jr., Kaiolohia Chapman, Brent Dillabaugh, Alexander Garcia, Michael Hahn, Michael Hann, Barney Hanson, Reece Ishihara, DeRoy Lavatai, Mark Masutomi, Vail Minn, Davis Oshiro, Bryan Rooney, Christopher Smith, Eddy Song and Aaron Yano.
