KITZBUEHEL, Austria — Potito Starace defeated Austrian wild-card Daniel Koellerer 6-4, 6-3 today to reach the quarterfinals of the Austrian Open.

The fouth-seeded Starace, who lost last year's final to Juan Monaco, saved eight break points and lost his serve once.

Starace will face fifth-seeded Eduardo Schwank of Argentina, who defeated qualifier Daniel Brands 6-1, 6-4.

Victor Hanescu of Romania cruised past Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-1.

Hanescu, who won his first ATP title Sunday in Switzerland, gave up only seven points on serve against the Spaniard. He will play Brian Dabul of Argentina, who defeated Ivo Minar of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3.
