Honolulu's Carissa Moore won the Roxy Pro Junior women's surfing contest yesterday.

The final day of the event was run in 1- to 2-foot waves at Biarritz, France.

Moore, 15 and a junior-to-be at Punahou School, topped a field that featured most of Europe's top young female surfers. The contest was open to female surfers ages 21 and younger.

Moore's two best waves in the final received a total of 12.55 points. Bianca Buitendag of South Africa placed second with 10.95 points, and Justine Dupont of France was third with 10.50 points.

"I am so happy to win this event," Moore said. "It is my first time in France, and it was a great event. I was pretty nervous during the heat because the battle was hard with Bianca Buitendag and Justine Dupont until the very end."

The contest was held in conjunction with the Roxy ASP Women's World Longboard Championship. The quarterfinals, semifinals and final of the longboard contest are expected to run today at Biarritz.

Joy Monahan of 'Aina Haina is the only Hawai'i surfer remaining in the contest. She is scheduled to face California's Rachel Barry in the quarterfinals.
