Salutes

  • Haleakala National Park recently honored its Maui volunteers. Longtime Maui residents, environmentalists, civic groups and Maui high schools were recognized for giving thousands of hours to Haleakala National Park.

    Among the event's honorees were retired Haleakala superintendent Don Reeser, representing the Maui Rotary Club, Seabury Hall headmaster Joe Schmidt and Kamehameha Schools' Kalani Wong, whose organizations provided civic and student help in repairing cabins, pulling out invasive plants and protecting endangered species. The Pacific Whale Foundation and the Friends of Haleakala took home honors for their free monthly wilderness service trips that are open to the public.

  • The founding members of Hawai'i's Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders were recently honored for their support of Red Cross services for the Hawai'i community to sustain the humanitarian legacy of Queen Liliu'okalani and Princess Ka'iulani for future generations.

    The members are Coralie Chun Matayoshi, Dr. Lawrence Tseu, Barbara Wong, Jean Rolles, Kimi Matar, Kitty Lagareta, Joey Harris, Madison Shimada and Carolyn Berry.

  • Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific has announced a second set of First Hawaiian Bank Fellows, among them administrative and clinical recipients nominated by their supervisors and managers. They are: Joy Cefra, benefits and human resources coordinator; Mark Hung, accountant active in inter-departmental activities; Chris Sato, manager of clinical information; Lita Endaya, physical therapist; and Heather O'Malley, also a physical therapist.

    The fellowships enable recipients to further their studies. They are funded through the annual First Hawaiian Bank REHAB Golf Challenge.
