Ching gets an assist as Dynamo eliminates D.C. United from SuperLiga

Associated Press

WASHINGTON — Bobby Boswell and Ricardo Clark scored off assists from Brad Davis to lift the Houston Dynamo to a 3-1 victory that eliminated D.C. United from soccer's SuperLiga tonight.

The victory assured Houston of at least a second-place finish in Group A if it maintains a goal differential over Atlante FC. The Dynamo will win the division if Atlante defeats CD Guadalajara late Saturday.

Stuart Holden capped the scoring for Houston with a blast from 15 yards off an assist by Brian Ching in the 84th minute. Ching is a Kamehameha Schools alum from Hale'iwa.

Boswell, who D.C. United traded last December to the Dynamo for goalkeeper Zach Wells and a conditional selection in the 2009 MLS draft, scored on a header in the 28th minute to give Houston a 2-0 lead.

Clark converted a header off a corner kick by Davis for a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute.

Francis Doe scored on a header in the 76th minute for D.C. United, which was 0-3 in the tourney. March Burch assisted on the goal.

The teams will meet again Tuesday in MLS play at RFK Stadium.
