Mitchell highlights paddling contest

More than 200 paddlers are expected to participate in the Hennessey's International Paddleboard Race today on O'ahu's North Shore.

World champion Jamie Mitchell of Australia is considered the favorite in the men's open field. Top female entries include Kanesa Duncan of Hawai'i and Shakira Westdorp of Australia.

The 7-mile course will start at Turtle Bay at 11 a.m., and finish at Waimea Bay.

It is the final "warm-up" race before the Quiksilveredition Moloka'i to O'ahu Paddleboard Race on July 27.


VOLLEYBALL

RAINBOW WAHINE CAMP SETS DATES

The 28th annual Rainbow Wahine Volleyball Camp will hold three sessions for youth players starting tomorrow.

University of Hawai'i head coach Dave Shoji and most of the current players on the Rainbow Wahine roster will provide instruction.

Sessions available:

  • Sunday through Wednesday, 1 to 5 p.m. each day at the UH-Manoa athletic complex.

  • July 24 to 27, 1 to 5 p.m. each day at the UH-Manoa athletic complex.

  • Aug. 4 to 7, 1 to 5 p.m. each day at the UH-Manoa athletic complex.

    The camps are open to boys and girls entering grades 4 through 12.

    PAC-FIVE WILL HOLD FUNDRAISER JULY 27

    The Pac-Five football team will hold its fifth annual fundraiser and reunion on July 27.

    The event will take place from 4 to 10 p.m. at Thai Sweet Basil Restaurant at the Manoa Marketplace. Tickets are $20.

    MIXED MARTIAL ARTS

    SILVA, GROVE WILL SIGN AUTOGRAPHS ON AUG. 2

    Mixed martial arts stars Wanderlei Silva of Brazil and Kendall Grove of Maui will sign autographs at the GNC store in the Ala Moana Shopping Center on Aug. 2.

    The two fighters are scheduled to be there from noon to 3 p.m.
