Man, 19, critically injured in Kunia crash

Advertiser Staff

A 19-year-old man was critically injured early yesterday in a pickup truck crash in Kunia.

Traffic accident investigator Sgt. John Agno said police were notified of the single-vehicle crash on Kunia Road, three-tenths mile south of Kunia Drive, at 4:08 a.m.

A man from the Schofield area was ejected from his 2003 Chevy Silverado pickup and was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition with thigh and head injuries, Agno said. Speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors, police said.

As of 3:15 p.m. yesterday, police had not been notified of any change in the man's condition.

Investigators determined the driver was headed south when the truck swerved off the right shoulder of Kunia Road, struck a guardrail and flipped in the air. The ejected driver was found in a grassy gulch area.
