Water conservation request lifted on Maui

Maui News

The Mahinahina Water Treatment Facility in West Maui was back on-line Friday night, and water officials lifted a strict conservation request for area residents, the Maui News reported.

Officials said a new computer system has been installed at the facility, which experienced a control system failure Friday morning. Water levels were also already back up at the facility, probably because of less water consumption due to the recent rains, officials told the Maui News.

The Mahinahina plant normally provides 25 percent of the drinking water for West Maui. Kapalua and Kaanapali residents get their water supply from private companies and were not affected.
