High surf advisory issued

Advertiser Staff

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for this afternoon and tonight for the east-facing shores of the Big Island and tonight for the east-facing shores of Maui, Molokai, Oahu and Kauai.

Increasing trade winds are causing surf to build along most eastern shores, the weather service said.

A high surf advisory means large waves will affect beaches in the advisory levels and can produce dangerous rip currents and localized beach erosion.

The advisory is in affect from 6 p.m. to 6 p.m.
