Cycling: French customs checking Schleck parents

Associated Press

PARIS — French police say customs agents have stopped and checked the vehicle of the parents of Tour de France riders Frank and Andy Schleck.

Frank Schleck of Luxembourg was 1 minute, 24 seconds behind Carlos Sastre in second place to start Thursday's 18th stage of the Tour. It's a 122-mile trek with few mountains.

A police spokeswoman says the spot check may not be linked to the Schleck brothers racing in the Tour. The spokeswoman says the vehicle is just one of several being checked.

A customs spokesman confirmed that two vehicles have been stopped and taken away for more checks.
