Honolulu gas prices remain at record high

The price of regular gasoline in Honolulu remained at a record $4.38 per gallon this week, according to AAA Hawaii.

Today's average price in Honolulu is 8 cents more than last month and $1.21 higher than the same time last year.

While Honolulu prices remained unchanged from last week, regular gas in Wailuku, Maui, dropped a penny per gallon, to $4.72, tying the record high set earlier this month.

Drivers in Hilo, meanwhile, saw a 3-cent drop, to $4.49, according to AAA Hawaii.

"Prices are dropping across the country with statewide averages dipping below the $4 a gallon mark now in 30 states," said Richard Velazquez, AAA Hawaii regional manager. "It remains to be seen if price drops on that order will reach Hawai'i so we continue to advise motorists to conserve as much fuel as possible."
