Funds being set up on behalf of bicyclist's family

Advertiser Staff

Friends of Army Staff Sgt. David Wayne Aldridge are working with Schofield Barracks staff to set up two different funds and are expected to have both ready by the end of the day.

The funds were announced today at Schofield Barracks.

Aldridge's son, David Wayne Aldridge II, was bicycling home from work early Tuesday when he was struck by a hit-and-run driver. Aldridge, 18, died a few hours later.

One of the funds would be set up to collect donations for those wishing to help defray the costs being incurred by the family. The family intends to transport the body to Jeffersonville, Ind., where the Aldridges have family.

A second fund would collect contributions for a reward program that would pay people with information that would lead to knowledge about the identity of the motorist who hit Aldridge and fled.

Details of both funds have yet to be worked out.
