Beach volleyball: May-Treanor, Walsh win 97th straight

Associated Press

LONG BEACH, Calif. — The world's No. 1 women's team Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh took their record consecutive win streak to 97 today and moved on to the main draw at the AVP Long Beach Open with a 21-10, 21-12 victory over 17th-seeded Ashley Ivy and Heather Lowe.

May-Treanor and Walsh, who have 17 straight tournaments, are playing in their last AVP event before beginning their Olympic gold medal defense in Beijing.

They moved on to Saturday's third round.

Three other Olympic teams — men's top seeds Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers, Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal and Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs — all moved on in the winners' bracket undefeated.
