Moloka'i, Lana'i getting zoning checks

Advertiser Staff

Inspectors from Maui County's Zoning Administration and Enforcement Division have begun making monthly visits to Moloka'i and Lana'i.

The inspectors will be available to answer questions regarding zoning and enforcement and conduct on-site property inspections. They also will be available by appointment during each visit.

Typical zoning and enforcement issues that are investigated include nonpermitted uses under Title 19 of the County Code, such as setbacks, nonpermitted vacation rentals, and unauthorized business activities on properties that do not allow such uses, signage and unauthorized work in special management areas, according to the zoning division, part of the Planning Department.

Moloka'i visits will be held on the second Friday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Mitchell Pauole Center in Kaunakakai. For appointments, contact Tammy Osurman at 270-6194; or call toll-free from Moloka'i, dial 800-272-0117 and ask for extension 6194.

Lana'i visits will be held the last Monday of each month from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Old Lana'i Senior Center. For appointments, contact Sonny Huh at 270-7810; to call toll-free from Lana'i, dial 800-272-0125 and ask for extension 7810.

Visits for both islands also can be made by calling the Planning Department at 270-7253.
