Aloha Region B wins boys volleyball title in Arizona

Hawai'i's Aloha Region B defeated USA Youth Silver, 12-25, 26-24, 25-21, 21-25, 18-16, Saturday to win the boys national youth/select title at the USA High Performance Volleyball Championships at Tucson, Ariz.

Aloha Region B defeated USA Select Blue, 25-20, 25-14, 28-26, in the semifinals.

Aloha Region B team members are Carlson Aki, Chad Barretta, Gabriel Ching, Scott Enos, Michael Gomez, Kaipo Lucas, Kent Morita, Micah Naone, Donovan Nieves, Jaylen Reyes and Bronson Sagon. The teams is led by head coach John Ing, assistant coach George Ehia.

The USA Youth White team swept Aloha Region A, 25-16, 25-12, 25-21, in the boys' international youth division title match.

Aloha Region A defeated USA Youth Gold, 25-21, 28-26, 25-22, in the semifinals.

Punahou's Taylor Crabb. who played for USA Youth White, was named boys' international youth Most Valuable Player. Aloha Region A players Anthony Robinson (best passer), Chase Suzumoto (best server) and Matthew Cheape (best digger) were named to the all-tournament team.

Other Aloha Region A members are Kyle Barretta, Spencer Bishop, Ryan Dunham, Lance Kinningham, Reid Pangelinan, Aaron Robinson and Chris Schkonech. Ehia is the head coach of Aloha Region A, with Ing as the assistant. The Aloha Region High Performance coordinator is Natalie Oana.

In the girls national select division, Aloha Select won the bronze with a 22-25, 28-26, 21-25, 25-16, 15-11 victory over Ohio Valley Region today. Aloha lost to Iowa Region in the semifinals, 25-19, 25-20, 25-15.

The Aloha Region bronze team consisted of Alexandria Tomlinson, Taylor Okimoto, Tanner Hoke, Amanda Labayog, Taylor Awai, Alyssa Tanaka, Kasey Chang, Bobbi-Lin Kalama, Jessica Garcia, Amanda Wasko, Sofia Luczak and Shawna-Lei Santos. Head coach was David Babino.

The championships, which ended today, had 83 teams playing in six divisions at the Tucson Convention Center.
