Stupid human tricks: Running of the Bulls

By Leslie Kawamoto

The San Fermin Festival in Pamplona, Spain, honors Saint Fermin, but it is most famous for the Running of the Bulls, or El Encierro.

The practice originated as far back as the 1500s, to move bulls from the countryside to the bull ring. Today, it's a tourist attraction. People come from all over to see men run for their lives.

So who's stupid enough to run in front of angry bulls? Thousands of people, from all over the world. A dozen people have died from wounds suffered during this year's festival.

Sadly, six bulls that run this course also will die in the ring. I'm upset by this cruelty. How can this be considered a religious activity?

In a world where it is never fair for animals, this is one fair chance where animals can get revenge.

Do you cheer for the bulls? I do.
