Obama camp confirms plan for Aug. 12 event in Hawaii

Associated Press

Barack Obama's Hawai'i campaign is confirming that he will travel to Hawai'i for a fundraiser Aug. 12.

The Obama national campaign confirms his Hawai'i visit but has not said how long he'll be staying in the islands.

Obama has said he's taking a weeklong vacation before the Democratic National Convention in Denver next month.

Tickets to the fundraiser at The Kahala Resort will cost $2,300 per person. Those contributing more than $10,000 may attend a private reception with the Illinois senator.

It will be Obama's first visit to Hawai'i since he announced his candidacy.

Event co-chairmen Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann and corporate executive Walter Dods say they hope island residents support Obama's efforts to become the first president born in Hawai'i.
