INDIANAPOLIS — Flooding in Lucas Oil Stadium is expected to add more than $5 million to the cost of the Indianapolis Colts' new home.

The Indiana Stadium and Convention Building Authority unanimously approved an allowance of $5.6 million today to pay for the extra work and repairs caused by flooding.

John Klipsch, executive director of the authority, said the allowance would allow contractors to be paid until insurance payments come through.

Three of four internal downspouts that carry rain water away from the stadium's roof failed during a July 8 storm, dumping water 3 feet deep into a basement telecommunications center.

The project remains on schedule. The $700 million, retractable-roof stadium is due to open for public tours on Aug. 16 and the Colts will play a preseason game Aug. 24 against the Buffalo Bills.
