Sewage spill reported at Sand Island Bridge

The Clean Water Board says there is a sewage spill from a force main under the Sand Island bridge adjacent to the Marine Education & Training Center. The force main belngs to the Army, the Board of Water Supply said.

At 3:00 pm, the City notified CWB of an ongoing break, discharging water of unknown origin from the bridge. The City and the BWS checked their lines and determined that it the line belongs to the Army and the City notified Army officials.

The discharge was estimated at 250 to 300 gallons per minute. Navy Public Works Center staff have arrived at the site and will make repairs.

The sewage flow has been diverted.

The public is advised to stay out of the waters fronting the Marine Education & Training Center, UH Marine Center, Snug Harbor, Kapalama Basin, Mokauea Island, and the Kalihi Channel of Keehi Lagoon.
