Pet extortion suspect arrested in Nanakuli

Police tonight arrested a 42-year-old man in Nanakuli for investigation of stealing a pet dog and trying to extort money from its owner.

The suspect, who listed no permanent local address, was arrested at 6:30 p.m. at Hakimo Road and Farrington Highway. He was booked for first-degree burglary, second-degree extortion and three protective order violations.

The complainant, a 65-year-old woman, told police the pet dog was taken yesterday and that the suspect demanded money to keep the dog alive.

Charges are pending.
