Mistrial declared in stabbing death case

Advertiser Staff

A mistrial was declared in the murder trial of Timothy Adarna, 22, accused of stabbing his stepfather to death in 'Ewa Beach in December 2006.

Jurors reported that they could not reach a unanimous verdict on the murder charge, but did convict Adarna of a second charge of arson.

A retrial on the murder charge has been scheduled to begin Oct. 6 before Circuit Judge Michael Town.

Adarna will be sentenced for the arson conviction Oct. 8 by Town.

He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Adarna allegedly murdered Robert Ramos, 55, and then set fire to Ramos' home.

Adarna's lawyer, David Hayakawa, argued during the trial that his client acted in self-defense.
