Hawaiian Air to charge $15 for first checked bag to Mainland

Advertiser Staff

Hawaiian Airlines said today it is matching certain fees that its major competitors have recently adopted, including a $15 charge for a passenger's first piece of checked luggage on flights between Hawai'i and the Mainland.

The new charge is effective with tickets purchased on or after Aug. 1 for travel on or after Oct. 1. On interisland flights between the islands of Hawai'i, the first piece of checked luggage will continue to be free, the airline said.

Hawaiian already charges $25 for a second piece of checked luggage on Mainland flights and $17 for a second piece of checked luggage on interisland flights.

Hawaiian also said that effective Sept. 1 it will begin charging a ticketing fee for bookings made over the telephone rather than online, $10 for interisland travel and $20 for all other routes. For ticketing at airport locations, the fee will be $25. No ticketing fees apply to transactions on HawaiianAirlines.com.

Hawaiian is also adjusting its frequent flyer mileage requirements for award travel on or after Sept. 1.
